ABSTRACT FORMAT GUIDELINES

The following guidelines apply to structuring and formatting abstracts for oral presentations and posters

Title
1. The first letter of the first word of the title should be capitalised; all remaining words should be lower case unless they are proper names or acronyms.

Abstract format
1. Abstracts must be submitted in English and in Word document only.
2. The abstract is limited to 300 words. Please use Arial, font size 10 pts.
3. Abstract title must be in bold print. Title should be concise and indicate the content of the abstract.
4. All abstracts must be written in a structured format using the headings suggested below:
Background
Objectives
Methods
Results
Conclusions
5. If your abstract does not fit into this format, then please choose headings that are appropriate to your abstract.
6. If abbreviations are used, the abbreviated term should be written o ut in full the first time it is used.
7. Please use single line spacing, with one blank line between the heading and the preceding paragraph.
8. Do not use a hard return unless you wish to create a new paragraph.
9. Headings should be followed by a colon and one hard return (as below):

Include the title of your abstract here Background: Your introduction goes here. Methods: A description of what you did goes here.

10. Please do not include any information about authors in your abstract. This allows blind assessment of abstracts by members of the committee.
11. Tables and figures can be included with your abstract as part of the Word document. Please put the table/ figure at the end of your abstract and remember to insert the reference (Table 1 or Figure 1) in the abstract.

If you require help with submitting your abstract, please contact Juliane Ried (abstracts AT cochrane.org).
